This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Jigsaw method in improving reading comprehension in grade eleven of Saint Joseph Senior High School Surakarta in the academic year 2022/2023. Jigsaw is one of the types of cooperative learning model, which is interesting to be applied to boost students’ motivation in learning English. In the Jigsaw learning method, each student’s part is essential to reach the group’s complete understanding of the topic.
The research problems formulation were: 1) Is the implementation of Jigsaw effective in improving reading comprehension? 2) What are the challenges faced by students when using the Jigsaw learning model? The researcher used mixed-method, the quantitative data will be analyzed using an independent sample t-test and the qualitative data using narrative analysis approach. The instrument used in this study were multiple choice, open-ended questionnaires, and structured interviews.
The results and analysis of the research problems found that Jigsaw gives significant improvement and a positive atmosphere while learning process. The average of students’ score in post-test was 81,83 for experimental class meanwhile for control class is 70,69. After conducted the research, the researcher concluded that: 1) Jigsaw method can improve students’ reading comprehension. 2) Jigsaw method can improve the students’ interaction with the teacher and others.
