Abstract


English is a compulsory subject from elementary to university which is expected to be mastered by all Indonesian students because English is an international language recognized worldwide. Unfortunately, many students are not able to fulfil this expectation because of the lack of students' English skills, especially vocabulary mastery, which are the foundation for learning the English Language. To overcome this problem, teachers need to innovate to help students learn English Language. Several previous studies showed that modified Monopoly games can increase students' vocabulary mastery, grammar, and descriptive text understanding. The researcher wanted to create MONOPOLY VOCABULARY MASTERY GAME (MOVAME) to improve the Students’ B1 level of CEFR vocabulary mastery.

This project was conducted using the ADDIE model because it provides a systematic approach to designing and developing effective instructional materials or media. MOVAME implements task-based learning because vocabulary is better memorized by practicing it than just reading. MOVAME has attractive design that attract the players to play MOVAME. This boardgame helps player to memorize B1 level vocabulary, also helps to understand the meaning and its application in a sentence.
