Abstract

Phonetics is the study and classification of speech sounds. There are many ways one can learn phonethics but not many consider gaming or games in general to be one of them. In this paper, our aims are to prove and find evidence, if English can be successfully learnt or be understood, through a certain game. One particular game that we choose is Among Us. Among Us is an online teamwork game where each player except one is designated as crewmembers of a spaceship and one player gets to be an imposter. The objective of the game is to find the “imposter” and throw them out of the spaceship. On the other hand, the job of the “imposter” is to kill as many crew as possible, without being spotted or suspicious. With Among Us being a game that requires a lot of communications, we use observation and archival study as the main source of this paper. Learning phonetics doesn’t have to be a hard or boring study, student can practically learn it themselves. They just need the right media for it .
