Adjacency Pairs Used in “Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu’s” Interview on Zoom Youtube Channel: Conversation Analysis

Abstract


This study seeks to identify and analyze the conversation analysis especially Adjacency pairs and the most used pairs that are implementations in the conversation. An adjacency pair is a pair of conversational turns by two different speakers. The descriptive qualitative method is used in this research.  The data was obtained from a written transcript of Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu’s interview video documentation which was downloaded from the Youtube platform with 10 minutes duration. The theoretical framework proposed by Paltridge is used in this study to analyze the data. The realization of the adjacency pairs will be the focus of this study. The result found that are seven Adjacency pairs used by the interviewer and the interviewee in the occurring conversation which are greeting – greeting, question – answer, question – unexpected answer, offer – acceptance, assessment – agreement, request – refusal, and leave–taking.
