STUDENTS' LISTENING ACTIVITIES USING ENGLISH LISTENING LESSON LIBRARY ONLINE AT SMA STELLA DUCE 2 YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


One of the students’ common problems in listening is difficulty understanding the information. To teach listening, teachers can use two approaches, which are intensive and extensive listening. One of the e-learning media is ELLLO. ELLLO stands for English Listening Lesson Library Online. ELLLO has useful tools that can be utilized to improve listening skills.

The researcher constructed two research questions. The questions are: 1) To what extent can the ELLLO application improve students’ listening skills?; and 2) Which ELLLO features contribute most to improving students’ listening skills?

The research was carried out using a two-cycle Classroom Action Research. To analyze the data, the researcher chose descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The data collection instruments consisted of: 1) Tests; 2) ELLLO extensive listening journal; 3) Interviews; and 4) Students’ reflections. The population of the students in XE was 36 students. A total of 27 students participated in the tests, 31 students filled the ELLLO extensive listening journal, and 5 students were interviewed using WhatsApp voluntarily.

The findings revealed that ELLLO can be an English learning medium that can improve students’ listening skills. Audio, script, and quiz are some of ELLLO's features that contribute most to improving students’ listening skills.
