Abstract
Indonesia is known for its various cultures. From these cultures, various “traditional religions” or cults of belief have emerged. One of the cult of belief that will be discussed in this manuscript is Sapta Darma. This cult of belief emerged in Java and began to be recognized by the goverment in 1973. This article aims to explore and discover the notion of divinity embraced by the followers of Sapta Darma, by paying attention to the historical aspects and its existence. The method used in this research is a literature study on the teachings of “Wewarah Pitu” and observation of Youtube videos about the activities and rituals of “Sujud Penggalian” made by several communities of Sapta Darma. The result of this research shows that the adherents of Sapta Darma call God with five attributes imposed on Him, namely Maha Agung, Maha Rahim, Maha Adil, Maha Wasesa, and Maha Langgeng. These five attributes are taught in the “Wewarah Pitu,” particularly in the first commandment, and are always mentioned in the ritual of “Sujud Penggalian”. The good relationship between the adherents of Sapta Darma and God, which is taught in “Wewarah Pitu” and lived in “Sujud Penggalihan” inspires them to live a good relationship with others and the universe.
