Abstract


Since 1945, the historiography or historical writing in Indonesia is closely related to its nationalistic view. Indonesian history is generally seen as a one holistic space that is trussed by national idea and ideology. Until something changed in the 1960s. Concurrently with power and politics swift, government policies toward history also changed the perspective of historiography. One of the policies at that time was the establishment of a National Inventory and Documentation of History Project through the Ministry of Education and Culture. In the same time, the emergence of new scholars in history major added local and regional elements to historiography. Historical studies in Indonesia are becoming more diverse with new scientific approaches. This article uses historical methods to analyze the discussion of regional historiography during the New Order era and the government's role in developing regional history as part of the historical education. From the studying and analyzing, Indonesian historians, whether in government agencies, universities or other educational institutions, have contributed to developing regional history along with national moral values.
