Abstract

Humans are living beings that depend on other creatures, including nature. However, human free will has caused an imbalance in our relationship with nature. Excessive exploitation of nature has led to ecological suffering, triggered by human moral instincts that pursue maximum benefit without regard for moral responsibility. The floods in Bali are a clear example of the contradiction between utilitarian morality and ecological balance. This study uses a literature review method to explore the concept of human ecological responsibility in relation to utilitarian ethics. There are three main questions: How does utilitarian ethics assess human responsibility for the environment in the context of the floods in Bali? Do human actions in Bali reflect utilitarian principles in maintaining ecological balance? Can utilitarian ethics become the moral basis for sustainable ecological responsibility in Balinese society? The results of this study emphasize the importance of moral awareness, cooperation between humans and nature, and the relevance of utilitarian ethics in dealing with the phenomenon of flooding in Bali.
