Abstract
Intolerance incidents continue to occur in various forms in the present era. One example is the rejection of the construction of Gamaliel Christian school in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi. This case demonstrates the weakness of tolerance practices in a diverse society. In fact, many local wisdoms have long taught values of brotherhood and respect for individual dignity. This paper discusses the importance of the Sipakatau teachings from the Bugis-Makassar community in South Sulawesi and Nosarara Nosabatutu from the Kaili community in Central Sulawesi. Both teachings can serve as cultural foundations to mitigate intolerance that persists to this day. This research employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. The analysis was conducted by reviewing relevant literature on both local wisdoms, then connecting them with the context of the intolerance case in Pare-Pare. The research results show that Sipakatau emphasizes respect for human dignity, while Nosarara Nosabatutu emphasizes unity and bonds of brotherhood. The similarity between the two lies in the value of brotherhood rooted in humanity. These values are important to be revitalized through education, social policies, and daily life practices as strategies to strengthen social harmony.
