Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is a specialized form of language teaching that caters to the specific needs of learners in a professional context. This study discusses the development of a module for the staff of Gembira Loka Zoo that focuses on improving their communication skills and job performance. The module is developed using the ADDIE model, which stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The researchers interviewed the zoo manager and observed staff members to identify their needs. After collecting the data, the researchers designed the module to meet their needs and developed it using various teaching strategies such as role-playing exercises, group discussions, and vocabulary-building activities. The module is implemented through classroom lectures, interactive activities, and real-life simulations. Finally, the module's effectiveness is evaluated by assessing the staff's language skills before and after training. The results indicate that the module significantly improves the staff's communication skills and confidence in communicating with visitors.

This study highlights the importance of developing customized training materials that cater to the specific needs of learners in a professional setting. The feasibility and relevance of the teaching materials used for learners are critical to the success of ESP. The ADDIE model is an effective framework for developing training materials, which involves analyzing the learners' needs, designing the module, developing the module, implementing it, and evaluating its effectiveness. By following a structured approach, organizations can improve their employees’ job performance and professionalism, improving customer satisfaction and overall success.
