Abstract
In today's digital era, smartphones have become an integral part of the lifestyle, especially among the younger generation. The use of these devices is not only limited to communication but has also expanded into various sectors, including education. A new phenomenon emerging as a result of excessive smartphone use is phubbing, also known as smartphone addiction. This study aims to explore the influence of phubbing on interpersonal relationships among students of the Catholic Religious Education Program (PENDIKKAT) at Sanata Dharma University. The research employs a quantitative method with a statistical analysis approach and data collection through questionnaires. The focus of this study is to assess the impact of phubbing on the quality of interpersonal relationships among students. The results show that phubbing has the potential to damage intimacy and satisfaction in interpersonal relationships. Students expressed how the phenomenon of phubbing can affect the quality of individual relationships. The implications of this study highlight the importance of students' awareness of the negative impact of phubbing and the need to limit smartphone use during social interactions
