In church life, the role of theological education for lay Catholics is important. This is emphasized by Pope Francis in the document Veritatis Gaudium. This study aims to explore the ideas of Pope Francis regarding the role of theological education for lay Catholics. The data is collected through literature study and interviews. This paper has three important focuses that will be explored. First, what is the role of theological education for lay Catholics? Second, how to choose the right university or faculty of theology to obtain theological education? Third, what is the contribution of the church that can develop theological education for lay Catholics? The results of this study indicate that lay Catholics need to receive correct and appropriate theological education in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
