Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the benefits of social justice and harmony in Sumba society through the lens of the concept of integral ecology. The concept of integral ecology refers to an approach that emphasises the close relationship between humans, nature, and moral or spiritual dimensions, so that environmental sustainability cannot be separated from social justice and harmony among community members. In the context of Sumba society, integral ecology practices include local wisdom values such as marapu, mutual cooperation, traditional land management systems, and respect for nature and ancestors. The harmonious relationship between humans and the universe, as well as the balance between resource distribution and shared responsibility for protecting the environment, are two examples of social justice values.

This research was conducted qualitatively using field studies and literature review methods. Traditional leaders were also interviewed and traditional practices were observed. This research shows that the people of Sumba are able to integrate moral, social and environmental values into their daily lives to create prosperity, solidarity and sustainable environmental preservation. This study confirms that the local wisdom of Sumba can be used as a reference for applying important ecological principles in the community, and provides an understanding that social justice and harmony are important foundations in maintaining the balance of nature.
